Mary Jane Abbott is a dedicated educator, small business owner, and lifelong resident of Blythe, Georgia. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, a Bachelor of Arts in History Secondary Education, and an Associate of Science in Education. With a diverse career in education, she has served as a high school history teacher at Jefferson County High School, the first principal of the Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics, and the director at Reid Memorial Mother's Day Out and Preschool.
Mary Jane's extensive experience includes curriculum development, budget management, and state and district reporting. Her leadership roles have given her a deep understanding of the needs of both educators and students. She and her husband, Michael Abbott, are also small business owners, adding valuable experience in financial management and community engagement to her skill set. Together, they are raising two children, Mason and Macy Abbott.
Mary Jane is committed to increasing literacy, enhancing security, ensuring practical spending, and strengthening partnerships between the community and schools as she runs for the District 8 seat on the Richmond County Board of Education.
As a parent, educator, and community member, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible potential of our students. I am running for the District 8 seat because I believe we need strong, compassionate leadership to ensure every child in Richmond County has access to a high-quality education.
